FARO® CAM2® Measure 10.5

FARO Technologies, Inc. announces the release of CAM2 Measure 10.5, its latest software for the FaroArm, FARO ScanArm and FARO Laser Tracker.

CAM2 Measure 10.5 leads the market with its capability to connect multiple 3D measurement devices, within the same coordinate system, and simultaneously scan into a single seat of software on one computer. This capability allows users to seamlessly scan large objects with higher speed and more precise accuracy in order to complete 3D scanning jobs faster.

“The new CAM2 Measure 10.5 provides significant advancements that support our customers’ needs to measure faster and more efficiently with improved ease-of-use,” stated Kathleen J. Hall, Senior Vice President and Managing Director – Americas.

Significant advancements to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) functionality provide users with streamlined analysis and visual reporting. A part inspection can now be displayed just like a print to easily visualize and determine part quality. This enhanced functionality eliminates the need to look at each feature in sequence to make the same determination.

Workflow efficiencies are maximized with the ability to automate repeat inspections by programing data analysis to automatically occur after the measurements are taken. This new capability reduces required training time, significantly reduces the risk of operator error, and accelerates job completion times.

Additional enhancements include expanded point cloud capacity and the ability to easily scan trim edges. Users are now able to collect over 20 times more data than our previous versions while maintaining accelerated processing speed. New capabilities also allow trim edges on materials such as sheet metal to be easily scanned, essentially eliminating the need to collect hard-probed measurements on part edges.

Muc-Off utilise FARO Edge ScanArm HD as they gear up for Tour de France

FARO Laser Line Probe HD with optically-superior blue laser technology

FARO Edge ScanArm HD  combines all of the advantages of a hard probing system with the capabilities of the FARO Laser Line Probe HD to provide rapid point cloud collection with high-definition resolution and precise accuracy – all in a compact, easy-to-use, and fully-integrated system.

The FARO Edge ScanArm HD is ideal for product development, inspection and quality control, and offers capabilities such as point-cloud comparison with CAD, rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, and 3D modeling of free-form surfaces.

The FARO Laser Line Probe HD brings together the power of a blue laser, state-of-the art camera and optics to maximize:

In designing the Laser Line Probe HD, FARO’s engineers recognized and seamlessly integrated all the key factors that work in harmony to optimize performance.

For a laser line probe product, the key design parameters impacting performance are:

  1. Laser Type – typically blue laser or red laser
  2. Optics – The lenses used on the camera
  3. Frame Rate – the speed at which the camera can capture a scanned area, measured in points per second and driven by the chip set that the camera uses
  4. Laser Line Width – also called beam width or scan stripe width

Laser Type

Today’s scanners employ one of two laser types: blue laser or red laser. The Laser Line Probe HD leverages an optically-superior blue laser technology.

Blue lasers have a shorter wavelength, which delivers improved scanning results with higher resolution thanks to greater ability to discern smaller detail in an object.

Blue laser technology also provides a 50% reduction in speckle noise that is proportional to wavelength and degrades measurement accuracy.

For the user the benefits are immediately evident: the FARO Laser Line Probe HD’s blue laser offers 50% better optical resolution than a red laser scanner. This difference is most noticeable when scanning optically challenging objects with dark, shiny or reflective surfaces. With red laser technology, it is sometimes necessary to use a special spray on the scanned object to make the surface less reflective, or multiple target placements.

The blue laser’s higher resolution dramatically reduces the need to spray parts. This removes an unnecessary step from your measurement process and saves you valuable time and productivity.

FARO @ Advanced Manufacturing Show Success 2015

FARO UK staff reported great interest in, and high levels of sales leads related to the company’s new technologies exhibited at the Advanced Manufacturing Show 2015.

As the UK’s only dedicated market place for global manufacturing technologies, the Advanced Manufacturing Show was the ideal venue for FARO to demonstrate its world-class advanced measurement technologies.

Through visitor demand, FARO’s advanced Edge ScanArm HD was demonstrated throughout the course of the show. The Edge ScanArm HD combines the flexibility and the functionalities of a FARO Edge measuring Arm with the high-definition Laser Line Probe HD, creating a powerful contact/non-contact portable measurement system that is ideal for challenging application requirements.

Also in great demand from customers needing to measure smaller parts were demonstrations of the FARO Gage measuring arm. An industry leader in portable CMMs, this accurate 3D gauge ends users’ reliance on expensive and hard-to-use fixed CMMs. The FARO Gage offers high accuracy levels, improves measurement consistency, reduces inspection time and the ability to generate automatic reports.

FARO UK staff are now busy following-up the large volume of sales leads  received at the exhibition and performing in-house practical demonstrations for potential customers throughout the UK.

Customised Carbon Production at Capristo

Check out the video below which takes a close look over the shoulders of the experts at Capristo and follow an engine bay hood for the Ferrari 458 Spider throughout the whole manufacturing process, all of which is carried out at their plant in Sundern, Germany.
