HZ FbZ Züttlingen, a manufacturer of pressing tools and plastic injection, was founded in 1968 as a separate specialist department of the long-established August Läpple AG in Heilbronn, Germany.
The highest level of precision is demanded in the manufacture of tools produced by Züttlingen. The molds are milled out of a metal block on huge milling machines and then finished to an accuracy of hundredths of a millimetre. The tools must ultimately be adequate for the extreme precision requirements of the automotive industry.
Minimal irregularities, which are almost invisible to the naked eye, have a significant impact on the components after injection molding. For this reason it is no wonder that tool manufacturers do not want to leave anything up to chance in terms of quality assurance.
Measuring with conventional 3D coordinate measuring machines took an excessively long time as the heavy molds had to be transported to the measuring machine. After trials using a white light scanner, Plant Manager at HZ FbZ Züttlingen Andreas Horch, became irritated by the pitfalls of this measurement device. “We quickly decided to return this device and work with a FaroArm instead.”
Andreas Horch is enthusiastic about the high level of flexibilitx and ease of operation of the arm: FbZ employees can now measure the tools right in the production shop and make necessary changes immediately.
Andreas Horch highlights four reasons; time saving, cost saving, return on investment and ease of operation, as the reasons for choosing the FaroArm. Andreas is extremely satisfied with his product choice, and has even recommended the FaroArm to other engineering companies!
